Unsolicited religious appeals

Regarding your recent article on unsolicited religious appeals, I have been repeatedly importuned by early-morning door-knocking from Jehovah's Witnesses peddling their brand of Christianity ("Conversion campaign raises complaints among Jews, Aug. 19).

Believe me, I understand Jewish sensibilities on this point. In his excellent survey of anti-Semitism past and present, author Robert S. Wistrich takes note of the presence in modern-day Europe of laws against incitement of ethnic and religious animosity.
