As the story unfolded on Wednesday, June 22, on the lack of a training camp for the Ravens at McDaniel College in Westminster and the media was frantically interviewing businesses, something else was happening. Ravens Roost 115 of the same Westminster was conducting their monthly meeting and delivering checks of $1,500 each to their named charities, Carroll Co. 4H Therapeutic Riding Program and Pathfinders for Autism.
Like the many other Ravens Roost chapters in this area, we are a social group driven by our love of the game and the support of our communities. Despite our failed attempt to flag down a TV news truck to focus on the good in our town, this Roost understands that the good we do and the relationships we foster are really what sport is all about. Are we disappointed that grownups with a lot of money on the line cannot get to a consensus? Of course. Will the businesses in Westminster suffer? Yes, without a doubt. But there are other pieces of this story, and not all of them are bad.
