No stars for restaurant ratings bill

Finally, some business sense comes to City Hall! I'm glad our City Council recognized the futility, expense and unfairness of requiring all food establishments to post "ratings." I'm sorry it was defeated by just one vote. Wake up, you guys ("Health grades bill killed," March 24).

Face it, Baltimore has a business unfriendly reputation, and had this eateries evaluation nonsense passed, it would again have proven Charm City's hostility. Right now, we have a glut of nuisance fees to harass merchants and retailers. Residents need local stores, restaurants and shops, so lay off!

Councilman Brandon Scott, the bill's sponsor stated, "You will not meet a citizen in the city of Baltimore who will say they don't want this (bill)." Well, I've met plenty who don't want the ratings directive (and I am one of them). Sorry, Brandon, let's try to encourage commerce to come here and not invent another stumbling block.
