High-speed rail is the wave of the future

The Baltimore-Washington region needs a Premium Airport Express Rail system connecting the downtown centers and major airport rail stations to replace the unreliable airport shuttle buses.

Premium Airport Express Rail is a High Speed Rail transit model that upgrades existing rail corridors in a way that is energy efficient and minimizes climate change.

A PAER system would require building a new airport rail station at BWI airport as well as adding pedestrian bridges and moving walkways at Reagan National Airport and Dulles International Airport in Virginia.

London Heathrow Airport's Premium Airport Express Rail system moves 8.4 percent of all airline passengers the 16 miles between downtown and the airport. Officials are planning to expand the operation with additional stations along a new tunnel extension.

It's time to build direct High Speed Rail links between downtown Baltimore and Washington and the region's major airports.
