It seems the Army is investigating charges that soldiers were denied a diagnosis ofpost-traumatic stress disorderin order to save money ("Chief of Army medical center suspended in PTSD probe," Feb. 22).
Trillions of tax dollars have been wasted on mindless wars in Afghanistan and Iraq and covert wars in Pakistan and Yemen. Yet the government is having trouble finding the money to help members of the military who are coming home with nightmares, unpredictable rages, trouble reconnecting with families and substance abuse problems?
Every soldier diagnosed with PTSD could cost the government $1.5 million in lifetime care. If the country can't afford that, it can't afford the costs of being constantly at war either.
We have a desperate need in Baltimore for an overhaul of our schools' infrastructure. So why is money being wasted on war, while schools across the country are crumbling?
Yes, take care of our wounded warriors, but bring all of their comrades back home ASAP. Cut the military budget and fund our communities instead.
