Sooner or later someone will win a record amount of money in the Powerball lottery ("What you need to know about Powerball and Maryland jackpots," Jan. 12).

There will be wall-to-wall coverage on radio, television, newspapers and the Internet detailing what the lucky winner will do with the money.

But where will we hear about the countless number of people who have lost more money than they can afford attempting to hit the jackpot?

How many kids will go hungry or shoeless because mom or dad has lost the household money?
