I felt outrage when reading a recent headline in The Sun describing the efforts to restore power ("Four days without juice, too much time spent in Panera," Sept. 1). The headline seemed to indicate that the workers were wasting their time sitting in a restaurant. These linemen and Baltimore Gas & Electric workers are working double shifts day after day and deserve all the credit they can get.
Yesterday, as I lugged four heavy cans of downed branches up to the road for recycling pickup, I noticed a strange man just sitting under the last of a row of pine trees near the road that led up the hill to four houses across from ours. He identified himself as a BGE employee and told me to walk to the end of my property and look up the hill.
There was a tree, fallen across the driveway, but still leaning against another tree, so one might be tempted to drive under it. But, he explained, there was a live wire running through that tree and they wanted to make certain no children or cars went up there until the crews arrived, which they did in short manner. So, while you might see some of the men "just sitting," most of them are there for a reason.
