Regarding your report "Davis wants to relax restrictions on past marijuana use for police recruits in Maryland" (July 22): While recognizing the challenges Baltimore City Police Commissioner Kevin Davis and his department face, compromising the rule against past marijuana use by police recruits would invite problems.
It would put officers who might be called on to enforce the narcotics laws in a position where their decisions could be questioned based on their own previous conduct.
As an ex-manager and employer, I suggest that job seekers with past substance abuse activities would be happier and more efficient workers in non-police related positions.
