Pope's comments on gays are less significant than they appear

The Sun displays stunning naivete in its editorial regarding Pope Francis' comment on homosexuals ("'Who am I to judge?'" July 31).

The Catholic Church is incapable of accepting gay sex because it barely tolerates straight sex. The Church regards all sex as sinful other than sex within marriage — and even then, only for procreation.

Unless the church embraces sexuality in general as one of the greatest attributes of being human, it can never accept homosexuality.
