Detectives Tyrone Francis and Milton Smith are a disgrace to the Baltimore Police Department ("Police misconduct sentences," June 2). These men have gotten off without any real punishment solely because they are police officers. If any working class citizen had taken two boys and dropped them off far from their homes, without a doubt they would face serious jail time. Not only have they disgraced themselves, but they have shown what Baltimore policemen "do for fun." Without a doubt, these men should have faced serious jail time for their horrific acts against these two 15-year-old boys.
This case also shows the true bias of Baltimore judges. The judge refused to strip these men of their badges or even to send them to jail. The two detectives only received a slap on the wrist. I cannot believe the unfair, unethical and dishonest actions by our whole legal system. We can only hope these two detectives receive true justice from the internal police administrative trial boards and are never allowed anywhere near law enforcement ever again.
