Just obey the law and be respectful

If you cannot obey the law or teach your children to obey the laws of this country then why do you want the police to come to your aid? You call them your enemy and yet want their help in times of dire emergency. Get a grip on reality. If you want and desire their help, give them yours ("Officers in Freddie Gray case taken to jail without handcuffs," May 28).

Turn off your blinders to the thugs and those that have not been brought up correctly even if they are yours! Turn them in, forget what you have stored up in your heart through the years and get a grip of what the real problem is — a lack of communication! Start talking to each other in the most basic terms! Hello, how are you today? Wave for goodness sake, we are all human! I am an American not black, white, yellow or blue, but American. I stand by that alone.

I obey the laws and have had my butt kicked for not obeying the laws of the land and have learned from that and am still learning when I screw up — as should every American. If you run, you will be chased and if you do not, you will not. How hard is that? If you shoot at an officer, you will be shot back at. This is common sense. Can anyone teach their children this?

Where has our common sense gone? Has our society become so litigious that all the young people want is to die and get their families a settlement from the government? This is sad. Respect is a two-way street and it begins with you, not others!
