If the state thinks that revoking a commercial fishing license from someone who poaches will stop them, the state is wrong ("Waterman could lose license for poaching," Feb. 25). Revoking the license of a commercial fishermen who poach would not stop them. Anyone who does things like that would not worry about having a license.
What the state should do to stop poachers is seize their boats and sell them to help compensate for the illegal fish they sold. This is the only thing that might stop them. Slaps on the wrist like what is handed out most of the time are useless. These people consider it a small cost of doing business if they get caught.
