Maryland doesn't need to bail out Planned Parenthood.

Planned Parenthood's problems with federal funding are completely within their power to fix while still providing abortion services ("Maryland Democratic leaders support Planned Parenthood funding bill," March 8). They were given a choice to discontinue abortions and receive the funds, or do without if they continue.

Planned Parenthood claims they do not use the money for abortions, which is probably true, but government monies free up Planned Parenthood money for the abortions, which amounts to the same thing. They could just break Planned Parenthood into two corporations, one providing woman's health care services and the other abortions. They didn't offer to do this because then the abortion corporation would have to act like a real business without subsidies from the government.

Many taxpayers do not believe government should pay for abortions, including Maryland taxpayers. Now our legislators feel that Maryland taxpayers should fund Planned Parenthood abortions for $2.7 million a year! Do we not have more pressing problems in Maryland that could use this money? Do you think Baltimore public schools use that money?
