Congratulations and thanks to Purdue Foods for its announcement that it will provide more conditions for 700 million chickens raised by its contractors ("Purdue plans to reform its chicken welfare policies," June 27).
Now it's up to consumers to do their part — stop eating chicken and other meats.
That will even further reduce the suffering of animals destined for the slaughterhouse. A vegetarian diet is the logical — as well as humane and healthy — next step.
