I believe you need to take a look at the "idiosyncrasies" not just of the person whose donation helped create Robert E. Lee Park but of Robert E. Lee ("Rename Robert E. Lee Park," June 23). Besides being president of a military academy and a state university, he was a brilliant military leader whose tactics are still studied today. He chose what he knew to be the underdog side out of loyalty to his home state.
Two hundred years of history has found no fault in his character. Will future heroes be discredited due to changing times? I believe this to be a betrayal of a great American and the philanthropist who donated the park.
