In the aftermath of the massacre at the gay nightclub Pulse in Orlando, Fla., the gun lobby and its pet politicians persist in repeating ad nauseam the usual slogans about Americans' constitutional right to keep and bear arms ("Md. Democrats join House sit-in over gun control; protest gets heated in chamber," June 22).
What about the constitutional right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness? Those murdered by cheap, easily acquired firearms are deprived of those rights, and in much greater numbers.
Cheers to the House Democrats who have stood up — and sat down — for them.
