Ripken and Angelos

I was amused by Joe Pachino's letter about Cal Ripken Jr. becoming general manager the Orioles ("A second act for Ironman?" Nov. 7).

But Mr. Pachino's premise is flawed. The correct phrase would be "Baltimore Orioles general manager Cal Ripken Jr. reporting to team owner Peter Angelos" — which doesn't roll off the tongue and is not going to happen.

Junior reports to no one, as it should be. The better phrase is "Cal Ripken Jr. and partners buy the Orioles from Peter Angelos."

Now that would be excellent news.
