I want to thank Tom O'Hare for his commentary regarding the Baltimore Orioles ("Loyalty is a two-way street, Orioles," Oct. 13). He expressed so well what so many of us are feeling. I started counting the days until spring training in January. I love baseball and couldn't wait. And then to watch the team I loved being destroyed.
Not keeping the talented players that we had but then replacing them with a B team? You don't replace Nick Markakis that easily. He was so much more important to this team and fans than just his talent on the field. That's something Dan Duquette doesn't understand.
The shabby way they treated Delmon Young? The merry-go-round they had everyone on, not knowing if you would be playing or what position or if you would be sent down while they auditioned someone else? It put so much extra pressure on the core of our guys that were still here, trying to pick up for all the players they put on the team — that should have still been playing in the minors.
Auditions are for spring training. If Peter Angelos is as smart as everyone thinks he is, he would have let Mr. Duquette go to Canada and given his job to someone who actually understands what a baseball team is all about. I haven't reached the point of giving up just yet — I guess my breaking point will be if they let Chris Davis go.
