Don't even try to get Orioles fans' hopes up again; we know better

Here we go again. The pitchers and the catchers have arrived in Florida to start another season and the sportswriters are tagging along to write about the unknown players who may make the team ("Orioles' Opening Day starter hidden among the bunch," Feb. 22). Give us a break.

Stop writing and come home. Spare us the stories that go nowhere. Stop telling us that "this is the year" when the Orioles will play .500 ball and get to fourth place. We know better.

We know where they will be in September — heading south. We are forever losers. We don't even have a five-year program to get better anymore.

We have a general manager who has yet to tell us what his plans are. Chances are that he does not have a plan.

If I were in his shoes, I would be in owner Peter Angelos' office screaming "give me some players so I can make an honest attempt at competing this year!" And if I didn't get better players, I would be getting a cab out of here.

Where is the outrage from having to watch 14 years of minor-league baseball playing? Doesn't anybody care?

Bring the reporters home. They serve no purpose. They just add to the problem.
