The failure of Obamacare

Like every other Obama "success story," the Affordable Care Act has significant downsides, only a few of which your recent editorial mentions ("Obamacare's success story," May 18).

Significantly, about 30 million Americans are still not covered — fully two-thirds of those targeted by the president when was marketing the ACA in 2008-2010. This is an inconvenient truth that is never addressed by Mr. Obama's sycophantic press.

The really sad fact is that Congress could have passed three laws — to increase parental coverage to age 26; increase Medicaid coverage thresholds; provide coverage for people with pre-existing conditions — and had the same results with far less wasteful spending guaranteed by a 2,200-page law and tens of thousands of pages of regulations to take care of 33 percent of the problem.

Taking care of 33 percent of the problem is a failure in most reasonable (non ideological) minds.
