We need more like Obama

I think the letter writer who thought that President Barack Obama "couldn't do the job" for the last seven years needs a comeuppance ("No unqualified presidents, please," Nov. 2). He can't possibly purport that things were so peachy in 2008.

On the day Mr. Obama took office, the Dow Jones index stood at 7,949. The unemployment rate was 7.8 percent. The Consumer Confidence Index was 37.7 and the percentage of the deficit to GDP was 9.8 percent. Plus, we were entangled in two wars of choice.

Mr. Obama was elected twice to end these useless endless wars. The current unemployment rate is 5.5 percent after spiking to a high of 9.9 percent in 2009. Last month's Consumer Confidence Index declined to 97.6. In 2014, the percentage of deficit to GDP declined to 2.2 percent. In addition, something to the tune 13 million more people now have health insurance.

Clearly, the Obama presidency has been something more than a rooster taking credit for the sunrise.
