Obama has failed as mediator

I found Brian Gunia's recent commentary very interesting and accurate for the most part ("Congress flunks Negotiation 101," Oct. 2).

The one thing he missed is the role played in some negotiations of the mediator — in this case, President Barack Obama. As the nation's leader, he should be in the role of mediator, and he has clearly refused to do so which further inflames the situation. It's his job to try to unite.
