I, too, am frustrated by President Barack Obama's approval of Arctic drilling even as he talks a good game about climate ("The poster state for climate change," Sept. 2).
Perhaps the problem is that the inertia of our oil addiction is overwhelming. We all are "guilty." So what would happen if we gave up "guilt" and took on "responsibility" instead? No unhelpful shame, just grounded realistic action to correct our course.
That action must stop the inertia. To do that quickly, money is our best tool. Want less of something? Raise the price. It's time for Congress to do what no president has the power to do — pass a carbon fee and dividend plan. The free market is a most powerful force and will lower emissions faster than anything else. Let's use it to steer this ship back to safe waters.
