President Obama fails to stand up for American values in China trip

I could not help but notice the lack of any recognition by President Barack Obama of two recent milestone events. The first was Sunday's 25th anniversary of the tearing down of the Berlin Wall, marking the collapse of the communist Soviet Empire, and the end of two generations of ruthless, tyrannical rule over millions of Eastern Europeans. The second is the democracy demonstrations occurring in Hong Kong. In the weeks prior to his current trip to China and Asia, our president has been conspicuously silent regarding support for the citizens of once free Hong Kong.

Freedom and opportunity are what our country has always stood for and continues to stand for. The least I could expect is for our president to stand proudly before the world and speak of our contributions to the end of communist tyranny and on behalf of freedom for people throughout the world.
