More guns are not the answer

The National Rifle Association and its leader, Wayne Lapierre, would have us believe that if more people carried guns we'd all be safer.

Their argument is that people attacked by a shooter would have a better chance of surviving if they were also armed and could take the shooter down.

Could they please explain, then, how 12 armed police officers (who undergo extensive training in the use of firearms) were unable to protect themselves against a single sniper?

If being armed did not protect the five officers who died and the seven who were wounded, do they really believe that those of us with less training and experience would fare better?

Isn't it time for our leaders to stand up to the NRA and their dangerous myth? More guns clearly are not the answer.
