Ensure access to care for chronic illnesses

Neurofibromatosis Mid-Atlantic would like to echo the sentiments of MedChi CEO Gene Ransom's recent commentary about House Bill 990 and Senate Bill 834, which are currently being considered by the Maryland General Assembly ("Md. lawmakers can help those with chronic conditions," March 12).

People with NF, like those with other chronic conditions, depend on the Maryland health exchange for effective and affordable care. Unfortunately, those needs have not been protected thus far.

By ensuring that insurance companies are open and transparent about the therapies their plans cover and the associated costs, the legislation will ensure that chronic disease patients have access to the care they need.

Patients across the state are counting on lawmakers to stand with them against the insurance companies and for the patients and residents they serve.
