I read with interest the commentary by the "nonpartisan" Gordon MacInnes of New Jersey ("Will Larry Hogan lead like Chris Christie?" Jan. 19). As a former resident of New Jersey with relatives currently living throughout the state, I have a perspective on life in the Garden State. To compare Maryland with New Jersey is ridiculous. All we need do is look at the number of corporate headquarters, number of federal workers, total population density and square mileage. Not a comparison.
In addition, the populace there reelected Gov. Chris Christie recently. Are they all missing the point? Fact is, Mr. MacInnes is not nonpartisan. Why is he writing to the citizens of Maryland if not to discredit both elected officials, one of which is the man we clearly elected to move us from the mire we are in? My relatives are happy with Governor Christie and his changes and focus on the economy and other areas. And I always enjoy the attendant filling up my gas tank while saving 15 cents per gallon and riding back to Maryland on roads that are certainly no worse than our own!
Let's be thoughtful about this and help our new governor work through the mess we have. I hope that we can truly operate in a bipartisan approach in Maryland without meaningless comments from the outside.
