The editorial, "Bibi's costly victory" (March 19), describes the reelection of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as having come "at the cost of a deeply divided society, a badly frayed relationship with the U.S. and growing international isolation." Now, the U.S. must immediately respond to Israel's election of Mr. Netanyahu who has tried to undermine U.S. foreign policy by attempting to drag us into a disastrous war in Iran, who opposes any peace settlement with the Palestinians and promised to continue expanding Israel's illegal settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories.
It is time to end all U.S. financial, military and diplomatic aid to Israel, while ending our "special relationship" with them, which has caused our country so much harm and expense. Ambassador Charles W. Freeman Jr. stated, "It is time for the U.S. to stop shielding Israel from the consequences of its actions and justifying its assaults against Palestine." Israeli columnist Gideon Levy summed it up: "The election laid the foundation for the apartheid state that is to come."
