Squirrels have tunnel vision curiosity. They are interested only in discovering their next nut. Humans, however, have 360-degree curiosity. We want to discover everything we can about how the world works. Aside from no bushy tail, that's the single biggest difference between us and squirrels, and by extension the rest of the animal kingdom.
In calling for the defunding of NASA's James Webb Space Telescope and asking, "Who benefits from anything NASA does pertaining to space?" Louis Storm seems to be asking us to excise our curiosity bone and to live like squirrels ("NASA is a giant waste of money." Feb. 4). Though I have some serious criticisms of some of our country's policies and political leaders, as one of those 360-degree curious humans, I take great pride in its support of NASA, the National Institutes of Health, Fermilab and the many other scientific endeavors it willingly supports.
