President Barack Obama wants $620 million for the James Webb Space Telescope! ("What's in it for Md.?" Feb. 3.) For what? To satisfy the curiosity of an extremely small percentage of the people who are paying for it. Who benefits from anything NASA does pertaining to space? For whom was that small step such a big step?
In other words, who besides the employees of NASA and its contractors have benefited from anything NASA has done pertaining to the space station, visits to other planets, or telescopes to see what happened millions of years ago and can't possibly affect anything happening on Earth now or in the foreseeable future? Give the space station to Russia; let it bankrupt them. Take all of this space nonsense off the backs of the U. S. taxpayers.
