How about free MTA fares for senior citizens?

The Sun justifies the proposed hike in MTA fares by citing other cities, such as Philadelphia, where the fare is $2.

As a senior who has visited Philly, I have found that all Philadelphia transit fares are free to people over 65.

Perhaps we should recognize that elderly people's lives are enriched when they can escape their homes and neighborhoods for a few hours without cost.

None of the media reports have told us the fate of the current 55-cent senior fare. Will it go to $1, or will the city experiment with the Philadelphia plan?
