"Alice In Wonderland" was an Oscar-winning documentary compared to your article, "MTA real time bus data 'hacked' and offered on private mobile app" (Feb. 25). Your story reported how the Maryland Transit Administration's success in making actual bus schedules available to riders online was quickly converted into a mobile app by a small Canadian company.
Far from reflecting a failure by anyone, as the story implied, it was a wonderful example of the public and private sectors using their capabilities to improve customer service — the MTA for developing the ability to deliver real-time information from its pre-Google CAD/AVL systems and a third party developer creating a useful app from the MTA's efforts. This should serve as a great model for other innovative state agencies and app developers.
