Mosby was right to seek justice for Gray

Baltimore City State's Attorney Marilyn Mosby sought justice in the death of Freddie Gray by charging the police officers who arrested and detained him ("Mosby was right to file charges, right to drop them," July 27).

She had the guts to do what many would not, and she exercised the duties of her office in a political environment that favored the police.

With police officers around the country shooting and killing unarmed black people while district attorneys and police departments cover up the shootings, Ms. Mosby is to be commended for acting to bring justice for Freddie Gray and his family.

The state medical examiner ruled Gray's death a homicide, and there must be consequences. African-Americans are not getting justice today, and those in elected office must become more engaged in protecting citizens' civil rights.
