Mosby demonstrated leadership

Baltimore City State's Attorney Marilyn Mosby is a courageous public servant. She took action to bring justice to the citizens of Baltimore in charging police misconduct. The system in America has not shown a fair administration of justice in the prosecution of shootings of African Americans and using excessive force by police officers against blacks, and the action of her office showed a firmness needed in the face of the growing trend in post-segregation America ("Mosby acted in good faith, but the facts weren't on her side," June 27).

The fact that she had the will to do this in the face of all the criticism she was destined to receive is remarkable, and she is to be commended for standing up against all the criticisms. We need more leaders like her in a time when it appears that blacks are being systematically mistreated.

I see this in South Carolina where my alma mater, South Carolina State University, has suffered at the hands of both black leadership and the state. The South Carolina Legislative Black Caucus failed the university, in my opinion, by not standing firm and together in demanding university leadership and pushing through equal funding at the state for the university that is available to the other state universities.

Please be encouraged, Mrs. Mosby, and keep up the fight for justice.
