I think the proposal to put an Andrew Jackson image on the back of the proposed new Harriet Tubman $20 bill is an insulting attempt at compromise ("Harriet Tubman to be African-American face on $20 bill," April 20). I noticed in the article that Dr. Ben Carson has visited us again from his parallel universe and may have unintentionally offered a more acceptable alternative.
He proposed putting Tubman's image on the two-dollar bill. Instead, I would suggest placing Andrew Jackson on its face and then on the back have the images of Jefferson Davis, Nathan Bedford Forrest and Strom Thurmond as a memorial to particularly destructive episodes in our history from which we are still attempting to recover.
Among many more appropriate companions on a new Tubman $20 might be Osceola, Tecumseh and Caesar Chavez.
