I noted with regret that Sen. Barbara Mikulski has chosen to retire, albeit for all of the right reasons ("Mikulski at ease with decision, record in Senate," March 4). She has been a credit to the state of Maryland as an ardent supporter of women's rights, an advocate for our state and a strong supporter of the state of Israel.
Hopefully her successor — and there are many vying for the position, as indicated in The Sun's recent editorial ("The race is on for Mikulski's seat," March 10) — will continue her balanced approach to many topics, including strong support for Israel as a vibrant democracy and our most steadfast ally in the Middle East. Unfortunately there are several potential candidates who do not share her view on support for the Jewish state. Without naming names, they certainly will not receive my support either in the primary or if they win in the general election.
