Gov. Larry Hogan would do much better to spend money on feeding hungry children in Maryland rather than on fighting midges ("Hogan pushes Kamenetz on money for midges," Oct. 5).
A bill introduced last year, which Mr. Hogan did not support, called for $2.5 million to help thousands of low-income families who cannot afford reduced-price meals in school for their children.
In the Baltimore County Public Schools, County Executive Kevin Kamenetz could eliminate the reduced-price meal fees for about $570,000 a year, less than the county's proposed share of midge control.
In relation to the scale of child hunger in Maryland, the amount of time and money devoted to controlling midges should be about the size of one midge.
