Metro Center is no Paris

Construction is underway on the newest building at the Metro Centre transit-oriented development project in Owings Mills. It will include 200,000-square-feet of offices and stores on the main avenue. (Baltimore Sun)

Elizabeth Bastos likens the vibrancy of the ever-developing Owings Mills Metro Center to that of Paris ("The Paris of Baltimore County," Sept. 20).

I too lament the never-ending asphalt and concrete adorning much of nearby Foundry Row and would love to see more open, park-like space, but guess what: There's no such open space at the Metro Center either, much less available parking.

If one isn't coming by rail, there's only limited, 30-minute curbside parking if one doesn't count the undeveloped area in back of the half-empty stores.

Easy access shopping, a la Paris, it's not. One would be hard-pressed to find a garage that lumbers over half the complex in the City of Light.
