Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake stated that 95 percent of the protesters were peaceful but that those bent on destruction were given space to do that as well ("Mayor: City didn't purposely allow crimes Saturday during protest," April 27).
That succinctly sums up the problem in Baltimore City. In the city's schools, for example, most kids want to learn, but the few that don't are given space to ruin the opportunity for everyone.
The vast majority of city residents of all races are mindful of our civic responsibilities. Ms. Rawlings-Blake and city police chief Anthony Batts' only real job essentially is to deal with the few who aren't. When they fail to do that the other 95 percent of us are right to be profoundly disappointed.
