Marathon holds city hostage

I am disgusted by the lack of the respect the organizers of the Baltimore Marathon showed to the residents of Baltimore City ("Pennsylvania man wins Baltimore Marathon," Oct. 18).

Those of us who live here should be able to call 311 to get up-to-date information on how to get out of the city during the race. Instead, we reached stressed out operators who were receiving back-to-back calls but had no information to provide. It shouldn't take 14 years to figure out to organize an event in a way that doesn't treat the city residents as hostages.

I can't imagine suburban residents tolerating being treated in this way.
