Lippman's column was a delight

Theo 'Ted' Lippman Jr., a former Baltimore Sun editorial writer and author of several books, died Saturday morning of complications after a fall at his home in Fenwick Island, Del. He was 85. (Joseph F. Farace, Baltimore Sun)

Regarding Jessica Anderson's obituary on Theo Lippman Jr. (Dec 7), his columns on politics and presidential history were delightful. On the days his columns appeared, it was the first piece I read on The Sun's editorial page.

In May 1994, Theo was the guest speaker at the annual dinner gathering of Baltimore law clubs. He was not fazed by speaking to a room full of lawyers, most of whom consider themselves very good writers, and Theo used the opportunity to critique and poke fun at the legal profession. But, as David Simon was quoted in the obituary, he delivered each barb in a way "you don't feel it going in."
