I disagree with the Sun's position regarding the renaming of Robert E. Lee Park ("Rename Robert E. Lee Park," June 23).
I agree completely with the removal of the Confederate Flag, a symbol of racism and hatred, from the state capitols over which it flies.
But Robert E. Lee was an inspiring leader, an excellent soldier and a noble human being. He was not a racist. In addition, he achieved many outstanding accomplishments, to the great benefit of the United States, while serving in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
The park should continue to be called the Robert E. Lee Park.
