Gaines family has no case

The wrongful-death lawsuit brought by family of Korryn Gaines represents a form of 'lunacy'

We learn from The Baltimore Sun that the family of Korryn Gaines plans to sue the Baltimore County and the police officer who shot her for civil rights violations and unlawful death ("Family of Korryn Gaines files wrongful-death lawsuit," Sept. 13). Apparently, they have a witness who will testify that Ms. Gaines said that she would put her weapon down if the police put their weapons down first.

Has our society gone crazy? Do we now tell the police what to do in an armed confrontation? Suppose the police had put their weapons down and she shot them? It is lunacy that someone would even try to use this as an argument.

This woman was holding a shotgun and threatening to shoot police if they entered her apartment when they tried to serve a warrant. She has no right to dictate terms of surrender to the police. Baltimore County should aggressively defend itself against this lawsuit and not cave in like Baltimore City did in the Freddie Gray case.

If this lunacy continues, what will be next? Will the police have ask our permission to pull us over to give us a speeding ticket?
