Kamenetz is pandering on stormwater fees

Thank your for your recent article, "Reduced stormwater fees sought," (Jan. 17) and the editorial covering the same topics ("Backtracking on the bay," Jan. 22). Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz seems to be pandering to special interests and positioning himself for higher office. His ideas of reducing the storm water remediation fee — a small fee with a worthy purpose — and seeking a roll back in the 2025 deadline for Chesapeake Bay cleanup are bad for Baltimore County, the state of Maryland and the region. We will all suffer as a result of these short-sighted efforts. The revised fees will bring in about $8 million less than last year, according to the article, yet the effect on each household is less than $14. It will be a shame if the Baltimore County Council passes his proposal easily, as he expects.

Please continue your coverage of this most important topic. We need to continue to shine the light on the our politicians and their actions, including these truly ill-conceived proposals. Our lives and the fate of future generations depend on what we do today.
