Christina Jedra's recent article on the lack of air conditioning in area schools left out some very important information regarding the Baltimore County Public Schools ("Lack of AC in county schools affects learning, teachers and parents say," June 18). When County Executive Kevin Kamenetz came into office in 2010, 52 percent of county schools did not have air conditioning. The county executive made the air conditioning of schools and the reduction of school overcrowding major priorities of his administration. He created and funded a $1.3 billion Schools for Our Future program, and with projects completed or under construction, the number of schools without air conditioning is being reduced to 22 percent. Over the next six years, 99 percent of Baltimore County schools will be air conditioned, including every elementary and middle school. By any measure, that is historic progress.
