A recent KAL cartoon lampooned Donald Trump's assertion that we need to limit Muslim immigration to protect ourselves from jihadists ("Keep them away!" June 20).
KAL asserted that the chance of being attacked by a jihadist in this country is "less than being hit by a falling piano," and therefore we should not make policy in light of such an unlikely event occurring.
In previous cartoons KAL has lampooned Second Amendment supporters' belief that the Constitution protects their right to own "assault rifles" despite their use in mass shootings like Orlando.
The U.S. Department of Justice reported that the homicide rate declined from 1992 to 2011, regardless of the type of weapon used, and the murder rate involving firearms dropped by 50 percent between 1992 and 2011 — even though gun sales in this country increased sharply during the same period.
Is it not ironic that KAL gives the groups whose members perpetrate mass murders a pass due to their small numbers but wants to ban the weapons they use?
