San Francisco 49er's quarterback Colin Kaepernick exercises his rights and takes a knee during the national anthem. Good for him. Good for all of us ("Kaepernick lands on Time cover as outrage over police violence continues," Sept. 23).
Yet there's an irony in this business of taking a knee. Many African-Americans would be alive today, and not have been shot by cops, if they had just taken a knee instead of confronting officers or running.
Perhaps Mr. Kaepernick's taking a knee is a healthy thing to see on different fronts. Maybe he's setting an example, though for different reasons.
