Farcical 'peace process' in the Middle East

Your recent report described a so-called "peace process" between Israelis and Palestinians that is, in fact, a complete farce ("Israelis, Palestinians intensify talks despite scepticism," Oct.7).

Israel doesn't want a two-state peace settlement with the Palestinians, today or ever. All Israel wants is to continue stealing more Palestinian land and water until there is nothing left.

Unfortunately, the U.S. doesn't have the courage to pressure Israel into a just settlement, so nothing will change. The Israeli newspaper Haaretz summed it up last week: "The U.S. is not about to apply any pressure on Israel; not as long as the weapons manufacturers' lobby, the Bible Belt and Jewish votes and financial power are seen as 'U.S. public opinion.'"

The Palestinians should forget the failed peace process and take their case directly to the United Nations, where they will get a fairer response.
