Israel on receiving end of terrorism

In his letter, "Israel's state-sponsored terrorism" (Dec. 10), Ray Gordon claims that there is only Israeli terrorism against Palestinians. Does the writer know about the UN Partition Plan for Palestine in 1947 which created two states, one for Palestinian Jews and one for Palestinian Arabs? The Jews accepted the plan and Israel was founded. The Arabs rejected the partition and invaded the new state in 1948. They lost and have been attacking Israel ever since.

Israel withdrew from the Gaza Strip and southern Lebanon years ago. What happened? Hamas took over the former, Hezbollah the latter, and both Islamist terror organizations, sworn to Israel's destruction, have fomented terror ever since. How does the writer characterize rockets fired from Gaza at Israeli civilian population centers? Are these harbingers of peace?
