I live at the Inner Harbor and for years even published a local newsletter. And yes, Celia Neustadt, I've heard about the Inner Harbor Project ("Preventing another Ferguson in Baltimore," Feb. 6).
In fact, I've reached out to you many times asking how we who call Baltimore's Inner Harbor home could be stakeholders too. Even though you met me personally at City Hall, not once have you acknowledged my existence — or the existence of the many others who reside here. Why?
You may see the Inner Harbor as just "a place that many Baltimoreans write off as a commercial, tourist destination," but that's an insult. We are a vibrant community, and we care about our city. I'm delighted your 25 "remarkable teens" view the Inner Harbor as the nexus for conflict resolution and proper behavior. It's great you all have designed a training program for police and guides. Those of us who live here would love to help and become involved with your worthwhile effort but you ignore us. This is a mistake.
Perhaps you might tell us the reasons you dismiss the Inner Harbor as merely a commercial, tourist locale. Your attitude really has to change!
